The Biltmore Medical doctors help patients with a range of common to complex medical needs. We understand that your health is determined by many factors including mental and spiritual needs. Our focus is in promoting your overall wellness and not just treating illnesses through education and proven results. When you call our offices you will speak to a member of medical team not an answering service. Each of our doctors works with a dedicated assistant and together your medical team is committed to treating your needs with thoughtful care and personal attention.

 Dr. James Ladd, MD

Dr. James Ladd, MD

Dr. Ladd obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and attended medical school there as well. He performed his internship and residency at Washington Hospital Center, in Washington, DC. Dr. Ladd is board certified in internal medicine and joined Biltmore Medical in 1990.

Dr. Thomas Rennard, MD

Dr. Thomas Rennard, MD

Dr. Rennard obtained his bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and attended the University of Michigan Medical School. He performed his internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Dr. Rennard is board certified in internal medicine and joined Biltmore Medical in 1993.

Dr. James Andrews, MD

Dr. James Andrews, MD

Dr. Andrews obtained his bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and attended Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. He performed his internship and residency at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. Dr. Andrews is board certified in internal medicine and joined Biltmore Medical in 1998.

Benjamin Mayer, DO

Benjamin Mayer, DO

Dr. Benjamin Mayer, D.O., joined Biltmore Medical Associates in August, 2019. He completed his undergraduate studies at Lee University in Tennessee and was granted a medical degree from Pikeville School of Osteopathic Medicine in Kentucky. After medical school, Dr. Mayer completed a dual fellowship in Anatomy and Osteopathic Manipulation, and he shadowed talented osteopaths around the country. Dr. Mayer chose an Allopathic residency in Tulsa, Oklahoma after identifying a desire to pursue a counseling track. During that residency, he developed a love for medical missions after serving Dallas’ urban center and communities in Niger, West Africa. Dr. Mayer learned to love the sun and outdoors in Florida, where he was raised. He now lives in Haywood County with his wife and five children on a small farm, where he enjoys all that the mountains of Western North Carolina have to offer. He is a welcome addition to the BMA family.

Dr. Nellie Fleming

Dr. Nellie Fleming

Dr. Fleming earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia and then attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Greenville Hospital System (now Prisma Health) in Greenville, South Carolina. She practiced for several years in Greenville, SC and Chicago, IL before moving to Asheville in 2016. Most recently, she practiced at Mission Hospital until joining Biltmore Medical in 2020. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. Nellie and her husband have recently welcomed their first child and look forward to raising her here in the mountains.

Dr. Cole Sims

Dr. Cole Sims

Dr. Sims obtained his bachelor’s degree from Clemson University and attended the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and stayed on for an additional year as Chief Resident there as well. He completed his fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Sims is board certified in internal medicine and joined Biltmore Medical in 2018.

 Dr. Samuel Thielman

Dr. Samuel Thielman

Psychiatrist

Dr. Thielman went to medical school at Duke University School of Medicine and did his psychiatry and fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Before returning to North Carolina, he was a senior psychiatrist at the U. S. Department of State where he served as Director of Mental Health Services. Dr. Thielman has expertise in the treatment post-traumatic stress disorder, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and problems related to complex work and personal situations. He works closely with the physicians here at BMA, but he is also available to see appropriate patients are not otherwise a part of BMA as well. He is licensed to practice medicine in North Carolina and Virginia and a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He joined BMA in 2018.

Peggy Deitz, FNP

Peggy Deitz, FNP

Peggy obtained her bachelor’s degree from Duke University School of Nursing and attended the University of North Carolina School of Nursing for her Family Nurse Practitioner Certification. Peggy was born and raised in Hendersonville, NC. She has lived in the town of Weaverville for 31 years. She is married with one grown son. She enjoys gardening, walking and hanging out at the lake with family and friends.
